  • Long-Term Guests and Subleasing

  • Dear University Village students,

As you plan for summer 2017, I want to write you about the subleasing policy. If you are graduating in spring 2017, you are not eligible to sublease and must vacate, according to your rental agreement, on or by June 30, 2017. For eligible student families traveling, conducting internships, or visiting their families back at home, you may be eligible to sublease. Summer subleasing is only allowed during the summer months so it ends in August. We don't allow subleasing during the academic year. Due to the current occupancy restrictions on postdoctoral fellows, PDs are required to vacate on June 30.

Subleasing is renting a room, or receiving rent, from others who are not authorized family members. Your contract, section 13, forbids unauthorized subleasing. Tenants who violate the sublease policy could receive a 3-day notice to quit. Subleasing can result in noise nuisance, damages to the property, compromise safety in the community, and create conflicts with neighbors or residents. Please be advised that advertising on Airbnb is forbidden and serving as a host. Soon, you will be served a rental addendum forbidding both Airbnb advertising and hosting. Your rental agreement allows "occasional and weekend guests." As a policy, we allow a two (2) week maximum for guests visiting. I suggest that you communicate with the University Village office about your guests visiting due to assistance with lockouts.

We hope that you will comply with the subleasing policy and not risk losing your eligibility for University Village. If you have questions, you can email me at I hope your academic year will be productive and your family will enjoy the peace and comfort of University Village.

    Cephas John
    Leasing Officer

  • Global Poverty and Practice Minor Info Sessions

  • Cal Students,

You are invited to attend a Global Poverty & Practice Minor Information Session!

The GPP Minor introduces students to the theoretical frameworks, methods, and practical skills necessary to engage with global poverty and inequality in imaginative and effective ways.

The "Practice Experience" is a central component of the Minor in which students partner with domestic or international non-governmental or community organizations, government agencies, or other poverty or development programs, on various dimensions of poverty action - from community health and food security to economic justice and grass-roots political power. The combination of the the coursework for the Minor and this real world experience allows students to connect theories and practices of poverty action. Funding is available to support students' practice experiences.

The deadline to declare the Minor this semester is Wednesday, March 8th. There are no prerequisites required to declare.
